The Shake Shack restaurant at Herald Square is an homage to the city’s elements and a subtle interpretation of the surrounding neighborhood of the Garment District. Crème was inspired by industrial and honest materials, using concrete, raw metal and reclaimed wood, adding an urban sensibility to the classic Shake Shack colors. Partnering with local makers, Crème designed custom chairs, tables and lights with a modern play on nostalgic fixtures to bring a sense of craft and uniqueness. Classic fabric patterns are modernized and abstracted into contrasting stripes of blackened steel bands and reclaimed white oak paneling, and the façade is a reinterpretation of the industrial warehouses that were common to the area.
